ATTENTION ALL University of Chicago LOWER SCHOOL, MIDDLE SHCOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL friends, families, teachers and administrators:

We are once again entering a "University of Chicago Laboratory School Team" in the "Race to Empower", conducted by the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization in honor of the MANY members of the Lab family who have been effected by various forms of cancer.

Would your family be interested in participating? The 1 or 3 mile walk or 5K run (depending on your preference) will be held on Mother's Day, Sunday May 11th. We hope that your family will join us! We have set up this website for each of you to email to your family members, friends, co-workers, fellow Lab school families, former teachers, etc. to raise money to provide programs and services to friends, family and loved ones today.

Our efforts pale in comparison to the courage, strength and determination that many of our parents, teachers, administrators and students have shown us in their fight against Cancer, but would bring the nation one step closer to helping find a cure for the disease.

Race Day will be fun and inspiring, with great friends, food and entertainment, and it would be wonderful if you would be there with us. To get started, begin by signing up as a member of our team
(TEAM NAME: THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LABORATORY SCHOOL). You can select Join Team at the bottom of this page.

Even if you can't participate on Race Day we would appreciate your help in our fundraising efforts by sending a copy of the website link to your family and friends so they can participate with us on Race Day and/or making a donation to provide programs and services to friends, family and loved ones today. Y-ME recommends that every walker set a goal to raise $100 or more, and your registration fee applies toward your goal. Everyone who raises $100 or more will receive a souvenir Race to Empower T-shirt, and those raising $250 or more qualify to receive an additional prize.

To make sure our team stands out on Race Day, we're creating a team T-shirt, banner and/or sign. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for the design!

Once you've signed up as a member of our team, you can access the Y-ME Race site, where you can create a personalized page and accept donations in support of your efforts or alternatively use the University of Chicago Laboratory School Team link below. It's fun to receive notifications that friends have made donations on your behalf! More than 95% of people who personalize their Y-ME Web site meet and exceed their fundraising goal.

Last year our team raised more than $48,000! This year I'm sure we can do even better, and it is through your participation, and the support of our friends, colleagues and family that we will be successful. On behalf of Y-ME, and the parents, teachers and students who are Cancer Survivors we thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11th.

We know many of you typically have other plans on Mother's Day, but we are hoping that with advanced notice you can adjust your Mother's Day schedule around the 8:00 a.m. morning walk/run so that your entire family can participate. We promise the morning will be emotionally rewarding for all !!
